More about

"By the proper intakes of vitamins and other nutrients and by following a few other healthful practices from youth or middle age on, you can, I believe, extend your life and years of well-being by twenty-five or even thirty-five years."
~ Linus Pauling

Vitamin E - TocopherolTocopherol

Facts you must know
Vitamin E is a group of fat-soluble antioxidants. One milligram of d-alpha-tocopherol equals 1.49 international units (IE). Like all vitamins, it is needed in the body for a large number of functions, especially in the endocrine system, the muscles and the peripheral blood vessels. Patients suffering from coronary disease, thrombosis, high blood pressure and burns (also sunburns) have highly profited from it.

How to use it
As with all nutrients, optimal levels vary highly. For most healthy individuals 200-400 IE per day are sufficient, while 800 IE are best when age effects are apparent. Since the 1940s it has been well known that therapeutic doses for illness are between 450 and 1600 IE, often more. This also explains why many studies do not seem to show good results for vitamin E - the dosage simply was too low. There are no negative side effects. Those who take medication to reduce the danger of blood clotting will need less of the drug, because vitamin E has anticlotting properties.
